Catherine Michel, Chief Technical Officer at Tribold, has cast strong doubts on claims that a federated approach to managing CSP products is a viable solution to product management problems. The claims, masked as a “catalog approach” when voiced in some recent technical journals, appear to suggest that product lifecycle management and product business intelligence issues can be resolved without implementation of core product data management solutions. Instead, the approach actually prescribes managing the intelligence of products through a bespoke integration framework, rather than from a centrally defined and optimized product data source.
“Tribold have a distinctly different approach where we advocate addressing the product management problem head on – one that has a clearly delineated, centralized product catalog at the core. Only then can product management functions be served in a truly meaningful manner,” Michel explained. “Doing anything else is to build these business-critical capabilities on sand. They may look good for a while, but they will quickly underperform and ultimately collapse under the weight of assumptions and inaccuracies.”
Catherine has recently published a paper discussing the routes to effective product management for Communications Services Providers. The paper is available from the Tribold web site.
